Leotrim Zulfiu is a full-stack engineer who loves solving complex problems - whether by optimizing enterprise software in the banking environment or automating his home with embedded systems. He has tackled parallel processing in Java, struggled with multi-pod caches and faced the ultimate challenge: Centering text in a div. Nothing excites him more than when his solutions work - and make users lives easier
When he's not programming, he's making music. Whether with a guitar or a synthesizer - he finds creativity in both code and sound.
Don Kodiyanis a full-stack engineer with a passion for programming that began at the age of 14. In his work, he emphasizes simplicity and customer value - his goal is to make the lives of end customers and colleagues alike easier. In recent years, he has worked in the public transport, banking and insurance sectors, where he specialized in microservice architectures and gained in-depth insights into their strengths and challenges.
Away from programming, you can find him either on the basketball court or on adventurous hikes with Leo.

Microservices are the “holy grail” of modern software architecture - but what if they create more problems than benefits?
Four years ago, we asked ourselves precisely this question and decided to take an unconventional path: Turning away from an externally developed microservice architecture in favor of a classic, internally developed monolith - a decisive step for the further development of the Vontobel financial advisory platform.
Why did we take this radical step? What hurdles did we face along the way? And was the decision really worth it in the end?
In this presentation, we will share with you our experiences and the valuable insights we have gained along the way.
