Greener Java, Lower Cost

LOCATION: Zürich
KEYWORDS: Language, Technology, Research

AGENDA:18:15-19:30h: Talk incl. Q/A
After an interesting talk, you will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and network with the speaker and professional colleagues over beer, wine and rich finger foods.

SPEAKER: Thomas Würthinger   COMPANY: Oracle

This talk will discuss the best practices for running Java applications with the lowest cost and resource consumption. Specifically, it will demonstrate how to achieve instant startup and minimal memory footprint when using GraalVM native images — programs compiled ahead of time to native executables.

The resulting applications run with deterministic performance and much lower energy consumption. Furthermore, different possible heap settings and their influence on the operational efficiency of the application are shown. Part of the talk will shortly dive deep into what is happening in GraalVM - compiler graphs and assembly code guaranteed!

LEVEL OF TALK: Intermediate
