The journey towards Continuous Delivery

KEYWORDS: Concept, Methods, Technology, Tools

AGENDA:18:15 - 19:15h: Talk incl. Q/A

SPEAKER: Robert Cowham    COMPANY: Perforce
SLIDES: 141209_JUGS_Zurich_Continuous_Delivery_Robert_Cowham.pdf

In this talk Robert will discuss some of the challenges that organisations face on their journey towards Continuous Delivery (CD) and approaches to handling them.

The ability to deliver software continuously is tremendously beneficial for organisations. It builds on processes and best practices that have been around for some years, including agile and lean methods.

As with many such initiatives, there is a fair amount of hype amongst the good practice. There are plenty of challenges along the way to the CD nirvana, even for those organisations who are greenfield sites, or using modern programming languages and processes.
These range from dealing with legacy systems, to handling database schema changes in a consistent and reproducible manner.

Approaches include the foundation of versioning everything, to the mantra of "aggregating marginal gains". This talk is based on practical experience with customers, relevant case studies, and training courses being offered on the subject.
